The East Coast snowstorm, as seen from space
The photo below, captured by NASA, shows the December 2009 snow storm that dropped 20 inches or more on some parts of the East Coast, including Mid-Atlantic states unaccustomed to snow. Here’s how NASA describes its satellite photo of the East Coast snowstorm: “The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this view of the Chesapeake Bay region as the clouds were clearing on December 20. The snow highlights the course of the Potomac and Susquehanna Rivers from the Appalachian Mountains to the Chesapeake Bay. The ridges and valleys of the Appalachian Mountains are similarly highlighted. The forested peaks are darker than the snow-covered valleys.” (Photo: NASA) More from The Daily GreenWinterize Your Home on the Cheap: 19 TipsQuiz Yourself: How Green Are You?5 Perfectly Painless Ways to Save Water20 Door Draft Snakes You Can Make Yourself15 Things You Can Do to Help the EnvironmentReprinted with permission of Hearst Communications, Inc
